  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 teaspoons Black Tea Leaves (or 2 black tea bags) Use stronger teas like Assam or Darjeeling.
  • 3 tablespoons Brown Sugar Adjust to taste; can substitute with honey.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Whole sticks can be used if preferred.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cloves Allspice can be a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger Fresh ginger can enhance the flavor.

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper. Set aside 1/4 teaspoon of this spice mix for the whipped cream later.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of water, 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves (or 2 black tea bags), and 3 tablespoons of brown sugar along with the remaining spice mix. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it simmers, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 1/2 cups of milk (or a dairy-free alternative). Allow to steep for another 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and strain the chai mixture into a heatproof measuring cup or a large bowl.
  5. In a clean bowl, pour 1 cup of heavy cream and add the reserved 1/4 teaspoon of spice mix along with 2 tablespoons of honey. Whip until soft peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Top each mug of your warm Christmas Chai Latte with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.
