Preparation Steps
- In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper. Set aside 1/4 teaspoon of this spice mix for the whipped cream later.
- In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of water, 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves (or 2 black tea bags), and 3 tablespoons of brown sugar along with the remaining spice mix. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it simmers, about 5-7 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 1/2 cups of milk (or a dairy-free alternative). Allow to steep for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and strain the chai mixture into a heatproof measuring cup or a large bowl.
- In a clean bowl, pour 1 cup of heavy cream and add the reserved 1/4 teaspoon of spice mix along with 2 tablespoons of honey. Whip until soft peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
- Top each mug of your warm Christmas Chai Latte with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.
