Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, softened butter, and brown sugar until crumbly. Press mixture evenly into the prepared dish and bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden. Allow to cool.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in 1 cup of packed brown sugar until dissolved, then add 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly for 2-3 minutes. Pour caramel over the cooled crust.
- While caramel is warm, sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the top and allow to melt. Use a spatula to spread melted chocolate evenly. Sprinkle 1 cup of roughly chopped pecans or walnuts on top.
- Allow the bars to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set. Cut into squares or rectangles and enjoy.

Notes
Use unsalted butter for a well-balanced flavor and pack brown sugar tightly for the right caramel consistency.
