Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 tablespoons chipotle sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Avocado slices optional
  • Sour cream or ranch dressing for serving

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, chipotle sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, and breadcrumbs. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the patties are golden brown.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
  5. Toast the hamburger buns in the same skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the chicken patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and avocado if desired. Top with sour cream or ranch dressing, then place the top half of the bun on each burger.

Notes

  • For a milder version, reduce the amount of chipotle sauce or use a mild salsa instead.
  • You can also grill the patties instead of pan-frying for a smoky flavor.
  • Serve with sweet potato fries or a side salad for a complete meal.
