  • 1 tbsp Garlic Powder Use fresh garlic for bolder flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Onion Powder Replace with fresh onions if preferred.
For the Cooking Liquid
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Can swap with vegetable broth for a non-meat option.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce Can be omitted for simplicity.
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce Use tamari for a gluten-free alternative.
For Assembly
  • 4 pieces Hoagie Rolls Crusty baguettes also work.
  • 4 slices Provolone Cheese Mozzarella is a good substitute, or omit for dairy-free.
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Parsley Great for garnish.

Method
 

Prep and Cook
  1. Pat the beef chuck roast dry with paper towels, rub with olive oil and season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil, sear the roast for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden-brown.
  3. Transfer the roast to the Crockpot, mix beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce, pour over the roast.
  4. Set the Crockpot to low and cook for 8 hours until fork-tender.
  5. Remove roast from the Crockpot, shred with two forks and return to juices.
  6. Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise, add cheese if desired, broil for 1-2 minutes until melty.
  7. Assemble sandwiches with shredded beef, drizzle cooking liquid, and serve with au jus.
