Ingredients

  • 2 racks of baby back ribs about 4 pounds total
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for heat
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Remove the silver skin from the back of the ribs by sliding a knife under it and pulling it off.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Rub this spice mixture all over both sides of the ribs.
  5. Place the ribs on the prepared baking sheet, bone side down. Cover the ribs tightly with another piece of aluminum foil.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours, until the ribs are tender.
  7. Remove the ribs from the oven and carefully take off the top layer of foil. Brush a generous amount of barbecue sauce over the ribs.
  8. Return the ribs to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 30 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
  9. Once done, let the ribs rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke to the spice rub.
  • You can also grill the ribs for a few minutes after baking to get a nice char.
  • For a sweeter glaze, mix honey into the barbecue sauce before brushing it on.
