Basic Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place an oven-safe rack on top.
- In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, black pepper, water, cayenne pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Stir until dissolved.
- Arrange bacon on the rack, brush with the brown sugar mixture, and coat evenly. Place in the oven.
- Bake for 15 minutes, flip each strip, then bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until crispy.
- Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to cool. This helps the coating harden.
- Increase oven temperature to 425°F (220°C), slice the baguette, brush with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and bake until crisp.
- On a serving dish, place the goat cheese log in the center and sprinkle the chopped bacon over it.
- Drizzle maple syrup over the log and serve with the crostini.
