For the Crostini
  • 1 loaf Baguette Substitute: Gluten-free bread for gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil For brushing.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
For the Cheese
  • 8 ounces Goat Cheese Log Alternate: Cream cheese for different texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup Adjust according to desired sweetness.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Oven-Safe Rack

Method

Basic Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place an oven-safe rack on top.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, black pepper, water, cayenne pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Arrange bacon on the rack, brush with the brown sugar mixture, and coat evenly. Place in the oven.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes, flip each strip, then bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until crispy.
  5. Transfer bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to cool. This helps the coating harden.
  6. Increase oven temperature to 425°F (220°C), slice the baguette, brush with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and bake until crisp.
  7. On a serving dish, place the goat cheese log in the center and sprinkle the chopped bacon over it.
  8. Drizzle maple syrup over the log and serve with the crostini.
