Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking dish lightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix well and press into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until slightly cooked through.
- Cook macaroni according to package directions until just al dente, then drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter, add flour, then whisk in milk until thickened. Stir in seasonings and 1½ cups of shredded cheese until smooth.
- Gently mix macaroni into cheese sauce and pour over the meatloaf layer. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
- Return to oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes until cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, allow to rest for a few minutes, then cut into squares and serve.
