Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Irish Butter Adds richness and moisture; regular unsalted butter works fine if you can't find Irish.
  • 2 cups Unbleached All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; you can swap it for whole wheat flour for a denser loaf.
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar Slightly enhances browning; omit if you prefer a less sweet bread.
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder The leavening agent responsible for the rise; ensure it's fresh for the best results.
  • 1 teaspoon Fine Salt (Sea or Himalayan) Enhances flavor; kosher salt can be used in a pinch.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Contributes savory depth; feel free to use fresh garlic, just adjust the quantity.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Adds subtle onion flavor; can be left out for a simpler taste.
  • 1 cup Irish Cheddar Cheese (shredded) Imparts a rich, tangy flavor; substitute with another sharp cheese if desired.
  • 12 ounces Irish Beer Moistens and flavors the batter; choose a beer you enjoy, noting it can alter the taste profile.
For the Garlic Butter Topping
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Used to create the topping; ensures a rich finish.
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley Adds freshness and color to the garlic butter; feel free to substitute with dried parsley if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Reinforces the garlic flavor; fresh minced garlic can be incorporated for a punchier taste.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances the overall flavor of the garlic butter; so simple yet so effective!

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted Irish butter in a small saucepan over low heat and brush it generously inside a 9x5 loaf pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Add the shredded Irish cheddar cheese to the dry mixture and stir gently until well-coated.
  5. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the beer. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the thick batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the top of the batter in the loaf pan.
  8. Place the loaf pan in the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Prepare the garlic butter topping by melting 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, then stir in chopped parsley, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt.
  10. Once the bread is baked, brush the garlic butter topping generously over the warm bread.
  11. Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
