Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract in another bowl until smooth.
  4. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ones, then pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes; allow to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Custard Preparation
  1. Heat whole milk in a saucepan until it just starts to bubble, then remove from heat.
  2. Whisk together sugar and egg yolks in a bowl until pale and thickened.
  3. Slowly pour hot milk into egg mixture while whisking, then return to saucepan and cook until thickened.
  4. Let it cool completely.
Ganache Preparation
  1. Heat heavy cream in a saucepan until it simmers, then remove from heat.
  2. Add chopped chocolate to the cream, stir until smooth and glossy.
  3. Allow ganache to cool slightly before using.
Assemble Pie
  1. Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate, spread custard evenly over it.
  2. Place the second cake layer on top and pour cooled ganache over the pie.
  3. Use a spatula to smooth the top if desired.
Refrigerate
