Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1-2 jalapeños finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped jalapeños until evenly distributed.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and egg until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
