Step-by-Step Instructions for Cajun Dirty Rice
  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until clear, then toast in a dry skillet for 5-7 minutes.
  2. Cook chopped turkey bacon in a skillet for 5 minutes, then add diced beef sausage for another 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add finely chopped Holy Trinity and minced garlic, sauté for 5 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Mix in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, cayenne, and dried thyme; bloom spices for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Fold in toasted rice along with cooked sausage and bacon, stirring to combine.
  6. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 15-18 minutes.
  7. Add seasoned shrimp, cover again and cook for 3-5 minutes until shrimp are opaque.
  8. Let rest for 2 minutes, then garnish with green onions and parsley before serving.
