  • 1/2 cup Raisins Optional; can be omitted or replaced with nuts.

Equipment

  • 9x9-inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Sharp knife

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and powdered sugar, then cut in cold, cubed unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9x9-inch baking pan.
  4. Blind bake the crust in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, until just set and lightly golden.
  5. While the crust is cooling, whisk together the brown sugar, eggs, white vinegar, and vanilla extract in a large bowl until smooth and well combined.
  6. If desired, fold in optional ingredients like raisins or chocolate chips.
  7. Once the crust is ready, pour the filling mixture evenly over the pre-baked crust.
  8. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, until the edges are set but the center still has a slight jiggle.
  9. Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool completely at room temperature.
  10. Once cooled, use a sharp knife to slice the Butter Tart Squares into squares for serving.
