Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat.
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork the meat.
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheese on each one. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the burgers reach your desired doneness (160°F for medium).
While the burgers are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.
