- 8 slices of white bread
- 4 breakfast sausage links, cooked and crumbled
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Maple syrup, for serving
Instructions
- Trim the crusts off the bread slices and flatten each slice with a rolling pin.
- In a small bowl, mix the crumbled sausage and 2 tablespoons of the sugar together.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of the sausage mixture on one end of each flattened bread slice and roll it up tightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Dip each roll-up in the egg mixture, ensuring they are fully coated, then place them seam-side down in the skillet.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Add more butter as needed for cooking.
- Once cooked, roll the French toast roll-ups in the remaining sugar and serve warm with maple syrup.
Notes
- For a sweeter twist, add a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top before serving.
- Try using different types of bread, such as whole wheat or cinnamon raisin, for added flavor.
