Description
A classic New York-style pizza recipe that yields two large pizzas with a crispy crust and delicious toppings.

- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ cups pizza sauce
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, etc.)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out one portion on a floured surface to about 12 inches in diameter.
- Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to a piece of parchment paper or a floured pizza peel.
- Spread ¾ cup of pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Sprinkle 1 ½ cups of mozzarella cheese over the sauce, then add your desired toppings.
- Slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven, sprinkle with oregano and garlic powder, slice, and serve hot.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, bake the pizza directly on the pizza stone without parchment paper.
- Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or parmesan for added flavor, or try a white sauce instead of traditional pizza sauce for a creamy twist.
