- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2-inch thick sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Begin by preparing your mozzarella sticks. Cut the mozzarella cheese into 1/2-inch thick sticks and place them on a baking sheet. Freeze the cheese sticks for about 30 minutes to firm them up, which helps prevent them from melting too quickly during frying.
- Set up a breading station. In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
- Take each frozen mozzarella stick and first coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs. Repeat this process for all the cheese sticks.
- In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F. You can test the oil by dropping in a small piece of bread; if it sizzles and bubbles, the oil is ready.
- Carefully place a few mozzarella sticks in the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked sticks to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve the golden crunch mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture.
