Description

Bang Bang Shrimp is a crispy and flavorful dish featuring fried shrimp coated in a spicy and tangy sauce, perfect as an appetizer or main course.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and lime juice. Mix well and set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, pour the buttermilk over the shrimp and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  5. Dip the coated shrimp back into the buttermilk and then coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  6. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the shrimp in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Toss the fried shrimp in the prepared sauce until well coated.
  9. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, bake the shrimp at 400°F for 15-20 minutes instead of frying.
  • Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice over the finished shrimp for an extra burst of flavor.
